The qualification carries the claim

A degree asserts that a graduate can exercise judgement in the discipline. When a polished answer can be produced in minutes, the final artefact no longer carries that claim on its own.

Policy is ahead of practice

Most institutions now have a position on responsible AI use. Far fewer have a way to express that position inside a specific assessment, in a specific discipline, on a specific week.

Blanket responses are expensive

Returning everything to invigilated handwriting, or monitoring every student, imposes cost and inequity across the whole cohort in order to address risk concentrated in a few assessments.

Accreditation asks for evidence

Professional bodies increasingly ask what a graduate can do unaided. A recorded reasoning journey gives faculties something specific to show.

Where it matters

Use reasoning touchpoints as a scalpel, not a roadblock.

A weekly tutorial does not need the same level of assurance as a final examination or capstone. Lecturers can choose where deeper reasoning is necessary without placing the entire class under intrusive monitoring.
